Zero S

Zero S

Zero has introduced their new street legal electric motorcycle and it looks promising as an around town alternative to a scooter. At 228 lbs, with 62 lb-ft of torque, it should have really excellent (and entertaining) acceleration. With a 60 mile range and a 60 mph top speed, it will be limited to commuter or short ride duty. But, that is all a lot of people use their bike for. However, for someone like me who lives outside of Atlanta and needs to get on the interstate to go anywhere, this bike is not a practical replacement for a gas powered motorcycle. But for those who want to be as green as possible and live in the right place (and have the necessary funds- almost $10,000.00- laying around) it might just work out.

In reality, the big news is that the bike exists, even as a technology demonstrator. As battery technology advances, top speed and range will go up as well- making electric motorcycles more viable as mainstream transportation.
