One of the first things that needs to be done on this bike is a brake upgrade. Actually, I need brakes of some sort just to move it around since it is so heavy. The problem is that the original brakes are in pretty bad condition- rusted calipers, frozen master cylinders, etc. I think I will be able to make one good caliper out of the 3 for use on the rear but I am going to use a set of Tokico calipers and master cyl off a late model Suzuki on the front. Modern brakes should seriously help the stopping power on this bike. Fortunately, these calipers are of the floating type like the originals so we can make a plate bracket to mount them to the forks. As you can see, it is fairly simple but the tolerances need to be pretty close so these are machined out of aircraft grade 304 stainless. It is a bit of overkill, but they will be strong and look good. Here’s a picture with them test fitted. I still need to get new hoses since the current hoses on these calipers are too short for the long forks on the CB. Stay tuned…
