tn_IMG_0024.jpgI have to admit, that in my business, I get to ride a lot of different bikes and most of them are pretty forgettable like the EX500 I rode Sunday. But one of my all time favorite bikes is the 90-97 VFR750. It is a little heavy by today’s standards, but still a great bike. Very few bikes have the magical combination of power, comfort, reliability, handling and good looks that the VFR’s had. VFR’s almost define the term “more than the sum of it’s parts” since they are not particularly high tech by today’s standards (except the single-sided swingarm) but have an amazingly balanced feel to them. The V-4 engine is the perfect combination of torque and power and it is pretty tweakable with exhaust, jet kit, filter and airbox mods. The gear driven cams and an after-market exhaust make it one of the best sounding engines ever. It is a “ride all day” kind of bike that is still competitive  in the twisty stuff if you do a few upgrades to the suspension and put some good tires on it.

The one you see here is a 93- the last of that generation (90-93) model although it is basically the same bike as the 94-97’s and most people think it looks better than the latter models. This particular bike has 2 big upgrades that a lot of sport-touring riders do to the VFR- a Corbin seat and higher rise Heli clip-ons. It makes a comfortable bike really comfortable. This particular bike was a theft recovery that needed a repaint and some detail work. The pearl white is gorgeous and gives it a very unique look. Unfortunately, I can’t keep it since I make my living by fixing and selling them! But, maybe I can keep it around for the rest of the summer…

Tomorrow, as long as I am in a VFR mood, I will post up some pictures of 2 VFR’s I did with RC45 bodywork and then painted to match the HRC race bikes of the time.
