Mladin, Spies and Yates were the top three qualifiers at VIR for tomorrow’s race. The Suzuki’s seem to be untouchable and Spies seems to have recovered from his qualifying crash yesterday. It looks to be a really good race- between Mladin and Spies. Speed has the whole story.

Yoshimura Suzuki legend Mat Mladin claimed his 50th career AMA Superbike pole today at Virginia International Raceway. Despite his primary rival Ben Spies injuring his hand yesterday, the Aussie still had to work for the honor, however. Mladin took the spot away from Spies late with a 1:24.226 lap to eclipse the Texan’s mark of 1:24.363.

“We didn’t feel too bad,” Mladin commented. “We started to get some good laps there and had a bit of a go with a few laps to go and did a decent lap time. It’s good to get on the front row and be ready to go for the race.”

Mladin also suggested that today’s Suzuki’s 1-2-3 sweep in qualifying should silence what he saw as unjustified criticism directed at his team. “I will say that’s it’s very interesting that Suzuki were the only team not to test here six weeks ago. So many times we get accused of doing all the testing and that’s why we’re winning. We decided not to come to this one and it didn’t seem to affect too many things. There are still three Suzukis at the top.”
